Italy - Night One

We finally made it! Our flight from London was an hour late so we arrived in Pisa after dark. The Leaning Tower was beautiful. Unfortunately we missed the daylight pics. We met up with Mollie and we set out for Florence. Our driver was a sweet, sweet man who pointed out all the points of interest along the way--too bad we couldn't understand much of what he said. Our Italian is not so good!!!

We finally made it to Florence and checked into the Tornabuoni Beacci. It is a lovely, picturesque place. We are in room #3 on the 4th floor--high ceilings, great colors and quaint furniture. Here are a couple of pictures.

Here is the view from our window. That is the Salvatore Ferragamo Store and Shoe Museum across from our hotel.

A close-up of the statue.

The Pucci Store!!!!

We unpacked and met up with Dorothy and Peter. We set out for our first night. It was awesome. It was foggy and cold and busy.

This picture portrays my emotions perfectly. Crazy, excited, tired, electric!!!!

We ate dinner at Trattoria dei Quattro Leoni (Four Lions). A perfect first meal! Started with bruschetta al pomodoro and pappa al pomodoro. Pappa al pomodoro is bread and tomato soup. It doesn't sound appetizing but it is one of the most savory foods that has ever crossed my lips. The best was the fiocchetti di pere con salsa di taleggio e asparagi. Perfect, little pasta purses filled with cheese and pears covered in a cream sauce with fresh aspragus. I can't even explain the burst of flavor! Molto bueno! We topped it off with a walk down the Ponte Vecchio and a gelato! P.S. Anthony Hopkins eats at this restaurant when he visits Italy.
