Setting: Kate and Cita are sitting on the couch. Kate has her laptop in her lap and Cita is wearing her shower cap (she wears it so her hair doesn't smell like the cigarettes she doesn't smoke).
Kate is printing labels for her school folders.
Cita says, "Why are you using that symbol?"
Kate, "Because I like it."
I say, "What symbol?"
Cita rolls her eyes and says, "The "peace" symbol."
Kate, "What's wrong with the "peace" symbol?"
Cita, "Well, it has negative connotations."
Kate and I make eye contact. We both know not to ask. Don't take the bait. Cita gets up and leaves the room.
