Nancy Jo and I
After a full tummy be headed over to the McKay for the Reclaimed exhibit that me missed yesterday. It was very interesting. An art collector and art dealer, Jacques Goudstikker, lived in the Netherlands during the period between World War I and World War II. He sold paintings to leading collectors and museums and was an influential tastemaker and impresario, mounting shows on famous and less-known topics and artists. His life was cut short when Goudstikker, a Jew, was forced to flee Amsterdam by sea just ahead of the Nazi invasion in May 1940 with his wife and young son, leaving behind approximately 1,400 works of art. He died in a tragic accident on board the ship that was taking him to freedom. The collection was looted by the Nazis and some were given to Hilter and his men. His little black book was found and many years later his family fought to get the collection back. Only 200 have been reclaimed. It is an amazing story and a great exhibit.
Kate and Nancy Jo on the steps of the patio in the McNay Garden. We also went to the Fiesta Store. I bought a cute creche and some ornaments. Then we headed back to Nancy Jo's for a little rest and relaxation. Alan got in from Nashville and we cooked burgers and dogs on the grill and had his parents over. Kate entertained us with her trumpet playing too. We made the 10 PM showing of New Moon at the Quarry. It was better than Twilight. I am just so tired of Bella. What a martyr.
